Welcome East Bay Mamas!

If you’re here because you have conquered your first trimester and you’re excited to step into the last two thirds of your pregnancy with confidence, you’re in the right place! If you are getting ready to take on the world of motherhood, prepare to meet you new baby and plan your maternity session, I’m here to address some of your most common questions. As an East Bay maternity photographer this blog is here to guide you through the process of planning your maternity session with warmth and reassurance answering your frequently asked questions.

1. When should we schedule our maternity session?

The ideal time for a maternity session is usually between 30 to 34 weeks. This timeframe allows your baby bump to be beautifully showcased while ensuring your comfort during the session. If you are expecting multiples, it might be better to schedule on the earlier side based on how you are feeling. Make sure you inquire by the beginning of your second trimester to guarantee a space on my schedule within the best time frame.

2. Where do maternity sessions take place?

While you can capture meaningful photos anywhere, we will work together to find the best location for your session. You will get to choose from one of the beautiful outdoor locations available across the East Bay Area. The redwoods in the Oakland hills, or the hills surrounding Mount Diablo might suit your fancy, or we might take a walk by the waterfront in Martinez. You might want to opt for the comfort of your own home, or even the simplicity of a studio. Whatever your vision, I will find the location to match.

3. What should we wear for our maternity session?

Wear what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. Flowing and soft for the moms-to-be and neutral tones for partners often work well. Don’t hesitate to share your outfit options with me before your session. I am here to help guide you to picking the best outfit for the location, and what will flatter your amazing body! I also have written this whole guide to help you pick your outfits.

4. We have a toddler or older child; do they come to the maternity session too?

Absolutely! Including your other child/children can make the session even more memorable. I’ll capture the genuine family moments and the excitement of welcoming a new sibling.

5. Do you help with posing?

Definitely! I aim to make the session feel like an afternoon with an old friend. I’ll guide you through natural, comfortable and intention prompts, ensuring your personalities shine through in every shot. I always like to start simple and build with you throughout the session. I promise that by the end you will feel like models ready to take on the world!

6. What is the best time of day for a session?

The best time is when natural light is at its finest, typically late afternoon for golden hour. We’ll work together to choose a time that ensures the most flattering lighting for your location. If you have young children who will be joining your session, we can talk about how to best prepare them for a golden hour session, even when it might be past their normal bedtime.

7. Do you travel for sessions?

Yes, I’m more than happy to travel to capture your special moments. Whether it’s your home, a meaningful outdoor location, or even a studio, let’s discuss the best setting for your vision. For any session 30 miles or more outside of Pleasant Hill I do require a travel fee. I also travel out of the bay area a few times per year, you can check my travel schedule posted to my instagram.

8. Is there any advantage if I book newborn and maternity sessions together?

Booking both sessions together ensures a seamless experience, allowing me to capture the full journey from bump to baby. Plus, you might enjoy some special perks for bundling these moments together. You can read more about the advantages of booking a maternity & newborn package here.

9. How long after our session do we get to see our photos?

I understand the excitement! You can expect a sneak peek within 24 hours of your session. The full gallery will be ready for you within 4 weeks, ensuring every moment is perfectly preserved digitally. I also highly recommend that you print your photos. (If you book a package you will get a complementary album!)

I hope these answers provide clarity and excitement for your upcoming maternity session. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or if there’s anything specific you’d like to incorporate into our time together.
